What we do

Our flagship project:

Champions of a green tomorrow

Emirates Biotech goal is to accelerate the transition to a zero-waste economy, offering PLA biopolymers with a reduced carbon footprint that are fully recyclable and biodegradable.

We do this by creating high-quality and sustainable polymers made from plants that capture CO2 from the atmosphere.

Emirates Biotech products will revolutionize the way we think about plastic

  • PLA is biopolymer. It’s been in the market for 15 years. It  has been proven to have unique performance characteristics for different kinds of applications.
  • The manufacturing plant is strategically located between Abu Dhabi and Dubai with world-class infrastructure on an impressive site. When completed our industrial hub will be over 135,000 sqm. It is the first of its kind in the MENA region and will create 300 manufacturing jobs.
  • We already have highly experienced executive, commercial and technology teams in place who between them have over 50 years of experience in bioplastics.
  • In addition, a world-class technology provider and globally recognized EPC contractor have been selected to partner with us on the project.

At the heart of what we do is manufacture PolyLactic Acid or PLA, a biopolymer, that has a range of applications and uses.

What is PLA?

  • PLA is used in a range of applications such as appliances, electronics, packaging, food service packaging  3D printing, fibres and non-wovens.
  • PLA is a biopolymer which is made from plants that absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint.
  • PLA is recyclable, meaning that after collection, sorting and reprocessing you can use it to make new PLA products, keeping valuable resources in the circular value chain.
  • PLA is fully compostable and biodegradable and so leaves no microplastics in the natural environment.
  • PLA is innovative and is rapidly becoming the material of choice for many brands and businesses.

Our future plans for GBI

We have a clear goal to become a global player in the sustainable biopolymers market.

We envisage no limit to our ambition and will also consider vertical integration in producing lactic acid feedstock as
well as producing downstream masterbatches.

We intend to move quickly to realise our desire to lead the way for a greener, more sustainable tomorrow and are working with leading experts and partners to take our mission global.
